Twitter hack leads to massive password reset

This week, Twitter reset many users’ passwords after an “unknown website or online service” compromised accounts. Twitter meant to implement this routine security procedure on only the accounts that seemed compromised, but the social network unintentionally reset many more passwords than it should have, leaving users both confused and annoyed.

In the aftermath, users are encouraging Twitter to implement stronger security, as many other social media sites have. One option is to implement two-factor authentication, making users type two passwords to access their account.

Trying to figure out how to reset your Twitter password? If you’re currently logged into Twitter, click on the gear icon in the upper right hand corner of your screen and select Settings. Click on the password tab and enter your current and new password. Make sure to remember to Save changes! If you’d prefer to reset your password via email, go to twitter.com, click on the Forgot password? link, and enter your email address or username. Check your email inbox (Twitter immediately sends a message to your accounts email address), click the reset link in the email, then choose a new password.

You can also get directions directly from Twitter here.

While Tweeters anxiously wait for the company to increase their security, here at Abine we’re one step ahead. Don’t rely on websites and companies to protect your info for you; protect it yourself with our new privacy add-on MaskMe (BETA).
