Yay, we won!

On 5/23/2012 in Santa Monica, Red Herring, a global media company known for its prominent tech events and publications, announced the recipients of its Top 100 award for innovative and promising startups.  We’re thrilled to have made the list!

Companies were evaluated on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, management quality, strategy, and market penetration.  Red Herring also reviewed startups’ track record and standing relative to their sector peers, ultimately selecting those who are positioned to grow at an explosive rate.

We’ve had a good year at Abine, and this recent honor from Red Herring is keeping our momentum going.  A few of the highlights:  in July 2011 we received $5.2 million in funding from our stalwart investors, Atlas Venture and General Catalyst Partners; we moved from Cambridge to a new office in Boston; we hired lots of awesome people and grew our team by almost 5x; we launched four products and services between February and May 2012:  DoNotTrackPlus, DeleteMe, ProtectedSearch, and PrivacyWatch; in April 2012 we were named one of the hottest companies in Boston; and in May, we surpassed 1 million downloads of DoNotTrackPlus.

Scorching.

Companies Red Herring has recognized in the past include Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Skype, Salesforce.com, YouTube, and eBay.  This year’s Top 100 winners included fellow Boston-area startup Backupify.  Congratulations, guys!

“Choosing the companies with the strongest potential was by no means a small feat,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across North America to the Top 100 Winners. We believe that Abine embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture.  Abine should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was very strong.”
