Auto Update?

Once you have all the bugs worked out via this thread:

https://www.getabine.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=137

I'm wondering if, since you're going to be working on this rather often, updating this & that, upgrading the software to add features or fix bugs, is there a way to incorporate a quiet trouble-free updater which would detect the presence of an updated version of Do Not Track Plus and ask if we want to install it? Work it out so that the existing version can be updated instead of recommending the old version be uninstalled prior to installing the new, or possibly making an installer that will prompt to uninstall, then install the new version? Auslogics has an installer like that, each time you want to install a new version, it sees that you have an older version installed, asks to uninstall the old, then installs the new.

The reason I ask that is that it's going to be a royal PITA checking back here repeatedly for a newer version, then going through the process of manually uninstalling the old version, only to have the new version install badly because of folders left behind by a bad uninstall.

Incremental updates are a blessing, like SuperAntiSpyware, when there's a new version, SAS will download & install only the updated files which makes an upgrade pretty painless.

An updater, whether automatic or manual, would certainly come in handy. If there was a choice, I'd use an updater, manually, to check for updates once a week, as another step in my weekly maintenance. I would actually prefer to manually update, but through an updater that would incrementally update the application's files, without having to uninstall the old before installing the new. -kd5-

Re: Auto Update?

kd5,

Agree that it's an unnecessary PITA to have to keep manually checking for updates. It's easier for us to automate this in other browsers, but we had some trouble doing this for Internet Explorer. Let me check with our lead IE developer and respond back to you here. Definitely a great idea to have a manual updater which you can use to check by yourself.

It is not necessary to uninstall the old versions before installing the new ones. We've written this so that you can simply upgrade by installing on top of your existing setup. The new versions will also delete the residual files left over by the old installation.

Re: Auto Update?

That is a HUGE step in the right direction. The updater seems less important knowing that we don't need to uninstall the old version, clean up leftover files/folders just to install a new version, but it would still simplify things further yet. That the installer will now clean up errant files while installing a new version is very good. I hope bugs are few (or better yet, non-existent) from here on out, you have a decent application here, I'm glad to have found it! I further very much appreciate that DNT+ is free! In this economy it's truly refreshing to find something as effective as DNT+ that doesn't cost a whole bunch of money...

Thank you, -kd5-

Re: Auto Update?

kd5,

I just heard back from our developers.
It looks like the IE updater is very close to being released to everyone.
It's already been tested and they just need to finish a couple small pieces. Once it's done, you will see a "new version available" link in our popup window (to the right of on/off button). Every time we push an update, this link will show within a day for all IE users.
