Unable to download DNT+

Unable to download DNT+

I have IE8 and unable to download DNT+. A message pops up, asks for my email address, and says it will be available for my browser in a few days. When will I be able to download it?

DNT+ for IE is being tested right now and we plan to have it released in the next week.

As a followup question, I was able to download (and install?) DNT+ into IE8, but I can not get an icon to show up on the Command Bar :x . There is nothing hidden on the right hand side of the CommandBar. The program installed into C:\ProgramFiles\DoNotTrackPlus\ (28Files and an Images folder). I have the Menu Bar, Compatibility View Button, Command Bar, and Status Bar all activated. The Favorites Bar and Lock the Toolbars are not activated. There is no DNT button on either side of the "Customize Toolbar" popup. WinPatrolPlus indicates that DNT+ is installed as an IE Helper Program, and is available to my IE Browser. Do you have any suggestions?
DNT+ did install into my FFOX 3.6.26 with no problems.

I forgot to mention that I am in WinXP-SP3, if that might have a bearing on it.

Hi roytater,

Let me send you a checklist of steps to try, this happens and there are a few possible causes. We appreciate your patience and support. We have seen a few of these install issues and we’d like your help to try to get you all set. Please try the following steps in order. If one doesn’t work, move on to the next suggestion:

Step 1. Fully restart IE. Even if you think you have already restarted, please do it again. Try and make sure all tabs and all IE windows are completely closed. (Hitting ctrl-alt-delete and “start task manager” will show you if IE is still running).

Step 2: Make sure you’re looking in the right place for the icon (it’s small and easy to miss). It should be in the first position of the Command Bar in IE8 and in the top right corner near the house and star icons in IE9.

Step 3: Open up the Windows “control panel” and go to Programs. Make sure “Do Not Track Plus add-on” is listed there.

Step 4: In IE, go to the “tools” menu and select “manage add-ons.”
- Make sure that DNT+ is there.
- Make sure the STATUS IS ENABLED.

Step 5. ONLY IF YOU’RE USING IE8: Please try enabling the command bar to see if the icon appears there: http://www.donottrackplus.com/iesteps.php
Please try unlocking the command bar and/or moving the command bar into a separate line.

Step 6. Under “Tools” >> “Internet Options” >> “Advanced,” make sure you have checked “Enable third-party browser extensions."

Step 7. Are you by any chance using 64-bit IE? If so, we do not have support for this yet. To find out if you’re using 64-bit IE, go to “Help” >> “About Internet Explorer.” If it’s a 64-bit version of IE, you will find “64-bit Edition” after the browser version number, like this: “9.0.8112.16421 64-bit Edition.” If it’s 32 bit, it won’t say anything.

Step 8. Try uninstalling the current version of DNT+ (go to “control panel” >> “programs” >> “uninstall”). Now, re-install the latest version: http://donottrackplus.com/internal/dntp-giveaway-ie.exe Now, repeat Steps 1 through 4.

Step 9: Are you using ZoneAlarm? This conflicts with DNT+ and makes our toolbar icon disappear even when ZoneAlarm is disabled.

Step 10: Are you using InPrivate mode?

Step 11: We’re not doing so well here. We’ll do our best to help - quickly!
Please provide us with the following information by emailing Jeff@GetAbine.com:
A) your windows version (win7, xp, Vista, 95, etc)
B) your exact version of IE
C) do you have any other plugins or add-ons?
D) the exact version number of DNT+
E) do you have any antivirus installed?
F) what homepage you currently have

Hi Jeff,

My problem was in your #6--I did not have the “Enable third-party browser extensions" checked. As soon as I did, and then restarted IE, it was there as bright and green as it is in my FireFox Browser.
